High-frequency PCBs are special printed circuit boards specifically designed to handle high-frequency signals (typically referring to frequencies above 500MHz or digital signal rise times less than 1 nanosecond).
Antennas, power amplifiers, filters, and low-noise amplifiers for 5G/6G base stations.
Millimeter-wave radar, advanced driver assistance systems, in-vehicle satellite communication.
Radar systems, electronic warfare equipment, satellite communication terminals, seeker heads.
High-speed server/router backplanes, optical modules, 400G/800G switches.
Network analyzer, high-frequency oscilloscope, signal source.
High-frequency signals are easily affected by the dielectric properties and losses of the substrate. Material selection is the core of high-frequency PCBs.

| Copper Foil | Surface roughness | Low profile copper foil (LP) / very low profile copper foil (VLP), roughness ≤1.0μm | Reduce the transmission loss of signals on the surface of copper foil (skin effect) |
| Solder Mask Layer | Dielectric loss | High-frequency special solder mask oil (Df≤0.01) | Avoid increasing signal attenuation by the solder mask layer |
The core of high-frequency PCBs lies in "reducing signal loss, ensuring precise impedance, and minimizing electromagnetic interference". It requires full-process control from "low-loss substrate selection → precise impedance design → high-precision manufacturing". For different high-frequency scenarios (such as 1GHz vs 60GHz), the substrate and process parameters need to be adjusted specifically.
High-frequency PCBs are specialized circuit boards engineered to process signals above 500MHz or handle digital signal rise times of less than 1 nanosecond with minimal signal degradation.
PTFE is highly favored due to its exceptionally low dielectric constant (Dk of 2.1-2.6) and extremely low dielectric loss tangent (Df ≤0.0009), making it ideal for millimeter-wave, radar, and 5G base station systems.
Unlike standard PCBs which allow a ±10% impedance deviation, high-frequency PCBs demand precise control with a tight deviation tolerance of ≤±5% to prevent signal reflections.
Due to the "skin effect," high-frequency currents concentrate on the outer surface of the copper foil. High surface roughness increases the signal path length and resistance, leading to greater attenuation. Using low-profile (LP/VLP) copper foils with roughness ≤1.0μm significantly minimizes this loss.
Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) or silver plating is preferred. Organic Solderability Preservatives (OSP) are generally avoided because the organic film can introduce higher contact resistance and additional signal loss at elevated frequencies.
A complete ground plane prevents ground segmentation, provides the shortest return path for high-frequency signals, enhances layer coupling (recommended distance ≤0.2mm to signal), and significantly minimizes electromagnetic interference (EMI).
